TRYING FOR A BABY
If you are planning to have a baby in your location overseas and you are not sure what services are covered under TRICARE Policy, please visit to find out more.
FIRST STEPS YOU SHOULD TAKE
The first step when trying to get pregnant is to schedule a consult with a health care provider. A health care provider can advise you on what to expect as you prepare for pregnancy and cover topics such as stopping birth control, determining what medications are safe, managing health care conditions, and more. This is also a good time to start taking folic acid (at least 400 mcg daily) to lower the odds of some birth defects.
FERTILITY TIPS
If you are trying for a baby, please follow the general tips listed below:

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO GET PREGNANT?
Over the course of a year, 85% of couples who are actively trying to get pregnant will conceive. If you are having difficulty getting pregnant after trying for 12 months or more (or over 6 months if you are over 35) without success, it is recommended to consult a health care provider. They can provide guidance and discuss fertility investigations. TRICARE covers some fertility investigations. For more information, you can visit to understand the care options available to you.
TRICARE Prime Overseas beneficiaries should contact their Primary Care Manager (PCM) for a referral for infertility care. TRICARE Prime Remote Overseas beneficiaries should contact their TOP Regional Call Center to speak to a TOP Medical Team member.
